Carteret to hostPianos in the Parkscontest
Carteret Mayor Daniel J. Reiman was joined by the Central Jersey Arts Council (CJAC) to announce the second annual Pianos in the ParksArt Contest for local residents and businesses.Artists are encouraged to submit designs reflecting the community, Carteret history and the importance of art and recreation.The borough has acquired six additional pianos for this year’s 2017 Pianos in the Park program.The pianos will begin being placed into the parks in early May. Redmond to make Plainfield appearance

East Brunswick Public Library’s Business Resource Center at 2 Jean Walling Civic Centerwill host a business networking breakfast from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on May 9. Cathedral International celebrates25 years
On April 2, the Cathedral International congregation in Perth Amboycelebrated 25years of worshipping in the cathedral with another grand march, ribbon cuttingsand a repeat of the order of service from the original grand opening.Formerly known as the Historic Second Baptist Church, Cathedral International celebrated 112 years of ministry in 2016. Under the leadership of Bishop Donald Hilliard Jr., the 5,000 multigenerational, multicultural church serves the communities of Perth Amboy, Asbury Park and Plainfield.In 1992, congregants participated in the"Grand March of The Second Baptist Church" that took themfrom 101 Broad Street to theirnew home at277 Madison Avenue inPerth Amboy. The premier moment of the march was when members walked over the threshold into what had beenknown as the Majestic Theater. It also wasknown also for relegating people of color to a designated section. Concert Band Festival on April 26
Eight high school bands from around the region will be performing at the J.P. Stevens High School Concert Band Festival, including the nationally recognized J.P. Stevens High School Wind Ensemble. It will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, at J.P. Stevens High School, 855 Grove Ave., Edison. Awards for outstanding performance and musicianship will be distributed at the conclusion of the festival. Admission is $9; $6 senior and students. The National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) announced Alfred Tallia has been elected treasurer of the National Board of Medical Examiners Executive Board. Middlesex County adds 26 acres
Middlesex Countyannounced the newest addition to its Open Space Preservation program, located along Gravel Hill Spotswood Road in Monroe. This wooded property consists of 26.1 acres and was a joint purchase between Middlesex County and the Township of Monroe. The Board of Chosen Freeholders allocated $400,000, from the county’s Open Space and Recreation and Farmland and Historic Trust Fund. Monroe Township contributed $50,000 toward the purchase. 'Raising the Flag'
A.R.T., the innovative art program that brings uncompromised creative control to those with physical challenges, has launched a new program in Princeton. A.R.T. has new studio program space in the Princeton Shopping Center. 4-H Paper Clover Campaign
National 4-H Council announced the launch of the spring 2017 4-H Paper Clover Campaign in partnership with Tractor Supply Company (TSC). Theeventbenefitsstate and local 4-H programming in each of the counties where a TSC store is located. The spring 2017 4-H Paper Clover Campaign will take place Wednesday, April 26, through Sunday, May 7. Shoppers at any of the 14 Tractor Supply Company stores located in New Jersey will have the opportunity to support 4-H in that county by choosing to purchase paper clovers for a $1 or more at the checkout. Merchants canjoin 'Shop EB'program
East Brunswick has launched a program, Shop EB, to encourage its residents to shop in the township and local merchants are being encouraged to sign up. The program will incentivize residents to shop at East Brunswick establishments by offering property tax reductions or rebate checks based on the savings they accumulate over the course of the year from shopping at the participating businesses. The program will officially kick off in June when residents receive their Rebate Cards.
